The primary design consideration with this residence was the desire to create a harmonious balance with the natural setting.

The lot is heavily wooded and because the home site preserves a screen of native vegetation at the front of the lot the house is seen through a field of vertical trees. The house responds to the strong vertical lines of the trees by expressing a strong horizontal character to contrast. The large four foot roof overhangs and horizontal banding contribute to this effect.

Similarly, the house is simply, cleanly detailed so as not to compete visually with the native vegetation. The primary articulation of the façade comes from texture and contrasting color; dark stained wood at the entry porch contrasting against white stucco walls.
